STEP 11:Complete the Essay Exam
Instruction and Questions:
Essay Exam One: Answers should be around ½ single spaced pages, 8-10 full sentences. It is
more important you are giving full comprehensive responses than counting the sentences. You
have 3-4 weeks to prepare your responses. You can lose up to 5-points for each question based
on inaccurate, unthoughtful, or incomplete answers. Be sure to respond to each part of each
question for full consideration of points.
1. According to lecture and authors Bell (2018), Adams and Zúñiga (2018), define and
discuss the basic tenets of social justice, both as a process and a goal. Discuss the
importance of equity and dignity to social justice, and why is self-determination
important, according to lecture? Lastly, how is social justice different than diversity
according to Adams and Zúñiga (2018)?
2. According to class readings, discuss identity politics: describe the ways identity is
complex according to Tatum (2018); how are identities classified by dominant and
subordinate groups; how do these categories maintain structural inequality according to
Kirk and Okazawa-Rey (2018)?; and how is this related to the ways we have socially
constructed difference?
3. Describe what social constructionism is; identify the four factors of social constructions
according to lecture and use the film The Story we Tell (2022) to describe each of those
elements. In other words, define each element and then support it with examples of
how race is a social construction from the film.
4. Discuss intersectionality according to lecture, reading and ted talk: what is it, where
does it come from, why is it important for social movements? What is the history of
intersectionality, according to Atewologun (2018)? And how can we put intersectionality
into practice according to Kimbrelé Crenshaw TedTalk (2016)?
Complete all the steps as outlined. Carefully read and watch every required reading and video mentioned in the steps. This module is worth 25% of my final grade, so it’s important to dedicate enough time to fully understand the material. Follow the instructions closely to write both the reflection and the essay. The step-by-step guide has been provided for you, so simply follow along as directed.
