Article Analysis Assignment of The Queen of Spades
Using the databases available through our GHC library and Galileo, find an article from a journal or literary magazine. The icon in Galileo should indicate “Periodical” or “Academic Journal,” and should not be a “Review,” “Book,” or “Ebook.” The article you select to read should be at least 4 pages in length.

Everyone, just be sure that you have an article from an academic journal and not copy from a website. If you have any questions–at all-about this, just let me know. I’m here to help. I have posted a sample article analysis from a student who gave his permission for me to share his work so that you can get a sense of what a good one looks like.
Step 3:
Read the article—more than once if needed. I recommend printing the article so that you can highlight and/or underline important parts. Write notes in the margins. Look up unfamiliar names and terms. Step 4:
Write a summary of the article (this will, typically, be the first paragraph of your essay). Summarize the article, making note of key points. Relate it to what we have read and discussed in class. Then, discuss each of the major points in the article. Some things you will need to consider:
What did you learn from reading the article? Did it shed any light on the primary source (i.e., the literary work)?
Did it point out something, an aspect of the work, that we did not discuss in class?
Do you agree with the article or not?
Was it well-written and insightful?
When quoting from the article, be sure to use MLA-style parenthetical citations. Note that all analyses must contain quotations from the article.
Step 5:
Include a citation for the article at the end of your analysis. This should be in complete MLA format. This is an important part of the assignment. Remember that Galileo will create the citation for you.
